Slope off on Sunday with Pierre & Vacances this winter

Slope off on Sunday with Pierre & Vacances this winter

Traffic delays, sky-high flight costs and fully-booked ferries or trains could soon be a thing of the past for UK families, as Pierre & Vacances introduces a new range of Sunday-to-Sunday options for the upcoming ski season.

Recognising the additional stresses often associated with changeover day, the leading provider of self-catered accommodation across Europe hopes that bringing greater flexibility to everyone’s favourite alpine fix will bring a host of additional benefits.

By giving visitors to Meribel, La Plagne and Avoriaz the opportunity to choose which day of the weekend they’d prefer to travel this season, Pierre & Vacances also hopes to help ease the burden on the Rhone Alps’ over-stretched resort infrastructure.

Explaining the company’s bold move, Cathy Rankin, UK & Ireland Sales Director, Groupe Pierre & Vacances, said: “We want guests to be able to enjoy a relaxed holiday experience from start to finish. By expanding our changeover options for some of our most popular resorts, more guests will be able to say au revoir to desperate Friday nights spent hurrying home to pack and swap traumatic Saturdays spent travelling for a much quieter final day on near-empty pistes.

“Our goal is to help holidaymakers have the most relaxing winter break, and we know expanding changeover day opportunities will particularly appeal to families looking to grab the best possible deal when they hit the slopes next February half term.”

In addition to improving customer experience and balancing weekend arrivals for resort staff, Pierre & Vacances recognises that easing congestion levels will also generate additional environmental benefits; a prospect that is close to its heart. The ski specialist hopes that the prospect of being able to travel on quieter days will encourage more British families to drive or take the train to their chosen resort.

Cathy adds: “We want to help maintain the beauty and delicate ecosystems that makes this winter wonderland so very special. We therefore hope that easing traffic congestion will play a small but important part in reducing CO2 emissions and relieving pressure on the resort’s infrastructure.

“What’s more, better balancing arrivals across the weekend will also have a positive impact on all those who work so hard operationally behind the scenes, from cleaning staff to bus drivers, and increase working opportunities for local residents.

“Responsible travel is important to us and, critically, it’s the right thing for all of us in travel and hospitality to deliver. We know our guests aspire to travel more sustainably, so it’s vital that we find ways to deliver greater choice for holidaymakers and put the systems in place to help them make the right environmental choices. Our wide range of accommodation options include sustainably furnished residences, plus well-appointed kitchens that make it even easier for guests to enjoy locally sourced meals”

The move follows the introduction of 16 eco-commitments from to reduce the impact of resorts on the environment, and the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes’s recent Green, Social and Sustainability Bond Framework SPO  which cites pollution prevention and control amongst its strategies to help protect the mountains.

For those who prefer to take their skiing breaks outside the school holidays, Pierre & Vacances is offering up to 20% off bookings made by 1 November 2022, valid on stays from 07/01/23 to 03/02/23 and from 05/03/23 to 07/04/23.
