Andante Travels introduces new expert-led wine and archaeology tours

Andante Travels has teamed up with leading wine tours company Arblaster & Clarke to bring guests a rich selection of expert-led wine and archaeology holidays for 2016.

Budding archaeologists and oenophiles; culture and cuisine enthusiasts can now gain insight into the archaeology, heritage and wealthy culture of these regions that are so steeped in history, and where wine has been cultivated and celebrated for millennia, particularly thanks to the expansion of the Roman Empire.

Andante Travels’ tours are all conceived, planned and led by articulate experts: archaeologists, historians, writers and broadcasters. These new wine tours will also be led by expert wine guides who will ensure guests get the very best out of the region they are visiting. In glorious European locations and fascinating archaeological sites, guests will taste and learn about some of the world’s best wines and gain exclusive special access to the sites on the tour.

The new tours include:

Vintage Provence
One of the joys of travelling to Provence is soaking up the stunning variety of landscapes: fields of lavender, ancient olive groves, cliff-top roads, and maquis-cloaked hills. This idyllic landscape is also home to some of Europe’s finest Roman remains – arches, amphitheatres, aqueducts and more – many remarkably complete. Its vineyards are equally historic, dating back 2600 years – this is one of the oldest wine producing regions in France and the only place in France to specialise in Rosé. Guests on this tour can embrace the Provencal way of life while admiring extraordinary archaeology and beautiful surroundings served alongside delicious wines and mouth-watering Mediterranean cooking.
This tour from 5th-11th June 2016 is priced at £2,635 (£295 single supplement) and includes expert archaeology guide, expert wine guide and tour manager, flights, local travel, all meals, hotel accommodation and all entries, tips and field notes to sites in the program.

The Wine of the Gods – Classical Temples and Wine in Sicily
The classically beautiful heart of the Mediterranean has been praised by poets and become the prize of countless cultures – Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks and more. The sun-soaked island is home to wonderfully preserved Greek temples, Roman villas and Norman cathedrals – many filled with glorious mosaics. Its beautiful sea, volcano and mountain scenery was once the site of fierce ancient battles; but was also a creative centre of philosophy, art and learning. Wine is also deeply rooted within the culture here – the elixir of the gods has been made in Sicily for millennia. It’s a wine-lover’s paradise, with local vineyards producing an abundance of excellent, complex varieties. On this tour guests can come and taste the ‘wine of the Gods’ in an exceptionally beautiful setting.
This tour from 17th-24th September 2016 is priced at £2,225 (£265 single supplement) and includes expert archaeology guide, expert wine guide and tour manager, flights, local travel, all meals, hotel accommodation and all entries, tips and field notes to sites in the program.

Pompeii, Herculaneum and Amalfi – Wine and Archaeology in Southern Italy
Southern Italy is an incredibly rich region – its abundant archaeology perfectly complemented by its equally historic 4000-year-old wine legacy. This tour will explore rock-cut abbeys, fascinating museums, magnificent temples and the astonishing remnants of ancient towns and cities devastated (and preserved) by Vesuvius. Wine is the life blood of the region – classically known as Campania, it was named “land of wine,” by the Greeks. These wines were adored by the Romans and its not hard to see why – bold, full-bodied, and supremely satisfying. Guests will travel alongside not one, but two expert guides who are waiting to introduce them to the remarkable history of Southern Italy, and share a glass of wine or two along the way.
This tour from 24th September – 1st October 2016 is priced at £2,635 (£295 single supplement) and includes expert archaeology guide, expert wine guide and tour manager, flights, local travel, all meals, hotel accommodation and all entries, tips and field notes to sites in the program.
