VIP Chalets reveals its favourite alternative summer alpine activities

Active holidaymakers looking to try something slightly different this summer will find a wealth of quirky adventure options in the Alps. VIP Chalets highlights its favourite activities to try in Alpe d’Huez, Les Gets and Morzine where it offers a range of luxury chalets that sleep from four to 29 people. Whether it’s cool virtual reality experiences, jumping from tree to tree, or learning top tips from pétanque pros; holidaymakers will have plenty to keep them entertained.

Cool off in Les Gets’ outside Waterpark
The Wibit waterpark in Les Gets is an aquatic playground for families and friends comprising approximately 30 modules of inflatable obstacles on a lake. Those taking to the water will scramble across monkey ladders, slip down on slides, climb walls and even take flight on a human catapult. Participants who tackle the course will come away feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and quite possibly exhausted from the water-based fun. Afterwards they can enjoy some well-earned down time back at VIP’s Altitude Lodge. The chalet-hotel is located at 1,530 metres just above the golf course in Les Gets and has lift access to nine bedrooms sleeping 18-29 people, including five family rooms, some with balconies and terraces, each with flat screen TV and three with private outdoor hot tubs. A stay at VIP Chalets’ Altitude Lodge is priced from £65 pp per night based on a minimum stay of three nights in June 2018 on a half board basis. Les Gets waterpark costs from 8€ and is open every day from Wednesday 20 June to Sunday 2 September 2018, from 11am to 8pm.

Brush up on your Boules skills
The Tour de France isn’t the only major sporting event returning to Alpe d’Huez this year: the final stage in this year’s Pétanque Tour will be held in the same wonderful setting on 20th and 21st August 2018. In celebration, three world champions will be on hand to demonstrate the game to the public so holidaymakers can pick up expert tips from the pros and take them on in their own competition. The free event will take place outside the ice rink, situated on Avenue des Jeux à l’Alpe d’Huez and all participants will go home with free gifts.
VIP Chalets has five chalets to choose from in Alpe d’Huez, all set within a private hamlet in the centre of the resort. Chalet La Ferme sleeps ten guests in three twin and two double bedrooms, all with en-suite bathroom and balcony. For added luxury the chalet boasts a wet suite with sauna and hot-tub. A stay at VIP’s Chalet La Ferme is priced from £50 per person per night based on a minimum stay of three nights in August on a serviced self-catered basis. Bed and breakfast or half board upgrades are available for a supplement.

Support the environment in Alpe d’Huez’s Pandathlon
On 30th June and 1st July 2018, Alpe d’Huez will host an eco-sports challenge organised by WWF France. Instead of pandas, the fundraising event will contribute to the preservation and conservation of the biggest feline in Europe, the Boréal lynx, an endangered species which lives around the Jura mountains and the Alps. Teams of three will compete in an orienteering race in the heart of nature, armed with a map and a compass, to locate 25 control points where they will stamp their map. The race will cover 7 km2, with an elevation of 920 metres, however pandathletes don’t need to be in the height of physical fitness to take part: friends, families and colleagues are invited to get involved in the fun event. To take part, participants must raise 1200 euros in sponsorship and need to sign up here.
Chalet Le Chateau has enough bedrooms to accommodate 15 people, or five Pandathlon teams. The chalet has five twin and two double bedrooms, all with en suite and balcony, as well as a small single bedroom. Relax after a day of exploring the mountains in the wet suite with hot tub and sauna. A stay at VIP’s Chalet Le Chateau is priced from £65 per person per night based on a minimum stay of three nights in June on a half-board basis.

New: Swing from the treetops with Ind’air in Morzine
Right in the middle of the Dérêches Park, visitors to Morzine can challenge themselves and overcome their fear of heights with an adrenaline-fuelled adventure in the trees at the Indiana Park treetop adventure course. Those who dare to take part will clamber over a series of obstacles, 20 metres high, and whizz across the forest on zip wires. Routes of varying difficulty are available according to height so holidaymakers off all ages can take part in some way. The course is open every day throughout summer from 11am to 6pm and offers a great way to enjoy the outdoors.
Colibri Penthouse is located in the same building as VIP Chalets’ Colibri Uno and both chalets are new this summer, built in the place of a disused cinema. Colibri Penthouse is spread across two floors with a spacious split-level lounge, four en-suite rooms and wrap-around balcony with stunning views of Morzine. Guests staying here will find themselves right by the town’s new bistro bar, called The Colibri, where they can grab a bite to eat any time from 8am to 11pm, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and local produce. A stay at VIP Chalets’ Colibri Penthouse is priced from £55 per person per night based on a minimum stay of three nights in June on a serviced self-catered basis. Bed and breakfast or half board upgrades are available for a supplement cost.

New: Virtual Reality Cocooning
To truly escape from the everyday, it’s now possible to try a virtual reality experience in mid-air. Guests will sit in a suspended seat, within a space fitted with sound equipment, wearing a VR mask that plays a choice of films. They can take a 3D trip around the world, explore the four seasons in the Alps or ride through the mountains and the sea. The sensation of floating is designed to enhance the immersion in the virtual reality universes. After returning back to real life, holidaymakers can relax back at Chalet Lumi, affectionately named ‘Little Lumi’, which is a two-bedroom chalet-apartment located in the very heart of Morzine. Little Lumi is an ideal choice for four friends or a family looking for a private alpine experience. It boasts a cool contemporary interior and a great little south-facing terrace over the high street which is bathed in sunshine during the day and heated in the evening. A stay at VIP Chalets’ Little Lumi is priced from £50 per person per night based on a minimum stay of three nights in June on a serviced self-catered basis. Bed and breakfast or half board upgrades are available for a supplement cost.

Prices displayed are for accommodation only, but VIP Chalets can also help book flights and car hire, or ferry crossings from Dover to Calais if guests are planning to drive to the Alps.
