The DP World Tour Comes to Kitzbühel in 2026: A New Chapter in Alpine Golf Begins

The prestigious DP World Tour is making its way to Kitzbühel in 2026, bringing with it the Austrian Alpine Open and setting the stage for an exhilarating new era of alpine golf. The Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith golf course has been announced as the venue for the Austrian Alpine Open 2026, marking a significant milestone for Austrian sport and year-round tourism.

The DP World Tour, the most prestigious professional golf tournament series in the world alongside the PGA Tour, is continuing its success story in Austria. Following its successful debut at Gut Altentann, the tournament moves to Kitzbühel in 2026 – sending a strong signal for the sport of golf and year-round tourism in Tyrol.

“The DP World Tour is, next to the PGA Tour, the world’s largest professional golf series. We’re therefore very pleased to have brought this international sporting event to our region in cooperation with SalzburgerLand – and to have Kitzbühel, an experienced partner with an outstanding golf offering, on board,” says Karin Seiler, Managing Director of Tyrol Tourism. “By hosting the event in early summer, we are strengthening the shoulder season and consistently pursuing our path towards year-round tourism. At the same time, this event will bring our alpine landscape into the global spotlight for many hours.”

Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser, Managing Director of Kitzbühel Tourism, adds:

“We are thrilled that the Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith Golf Course will be the venue of the next Austrian Alpine Open and thus part of the DP World Tour. With four golf courses directly on site, Kitzbühel is one of the top golf regions in the Alps. Golf is a key strength of our summer positioning, and through targeted investments – for example in golf and cycling – we’ve initiated a clear quality drive. We also see this as a strong alliance between Salzburg and Tyrol.”

Dr. Christian Harisch, Chairman of Kitzbühel Tourism, emphasises:

“Hosting the Austrian Alpine Open as part of the DP World Tour in Kitzbühel – the golf center of the Alps – is more than a sporting milestone. It’s a powerful statement about Kitzbühel’s future as a year-round alpine destination. Kitzbühel brings together international appeal, quality, and genuine hospitality at the highest level. Events like this show how modern, sustainable, and passionately driven year-round tourism in the Alps can look.”

Austria’s golf rising star Maximilian Steinlechner achieved his best result on the DP World Tour at this year’s Austrian Alpine Open. The Tyrolean is excited to compete at the highest level in his home region next year:

“It will definitely be a highlight. I’m thrilled to be part of it – and hopefully, by 2026, as a full member of the DP World Tour,” says the 25-year-old, who currently plays on the Hotelplanner Tour (the second-tier pro circuit), but is well on his way to earning his Tour card for next season.

The tournament’s move to SalzburgerLand and Kitzbühel marks a milestone for professional golf in Austria and strengthens the Alpine region as an attractive year-round destination. Golf fans can look forward to top-tier competition set against a breathtaking mountain backdrop – a sporting and tourism event of true international calibre.
