MS Sea Spirit Sails down the Thames
The first ever time Quark Expeditions brings a ship to London
Quark Expeditions, the leader in polar adventure, hosted over 80 agents and tour operators aboard MS Sea Spirit on Friday 14th September. Embarkation took place at London International Cruise Terminal, at Tilbury Docks where it then sailed up the Thames to moor alongside HMS Belfast.
The highlights of the day included Tower Bridge opening up for the cruise, with thousands of tourists looking and waving. With the sun shining it was a great opportunity to take all the passengers through the ship and give them a feel for the expedition experience. MS Sea Spirit docked at HMS Belfast, where more agents and tour operators joined the ship.
“It was clear that this would become a truly special voyage. The Thames is quite busy and small; and although the Sea Spirit is a small ship compared to traditional cruise vessels, it seemed big in the grand scheme of things. That became apparent when passing the Thames Barrier, which required exceptional navigation skills from the pilot, the Captain and its crew. When we came near London, people on the water side ran to their balconies and started waving.” said Hans Lagerweij, president of Quark Expeditions.
A sumptuous lunch was served, followed by presentations featuring Quark Expedition Leader and Polar Expert, Laurie Dexter on all things Polar as well as a talk on health and safety in the poles.
For the first time in 2013, Arctic passengers will be able to travel aboard Quark’s luxury all-suites adventure ship, the Sea Spirit, on any of the Spitsbergen, Greenland or Iceland itineraries.
