French ski resort, La Plagne, signs contract with Ollie Davies from the British ski team – ready for the Beijing Winter Olympics

La Plagne is a French ski resort in the Alpine valley of the Tarentaise. Celebrating its 60th birthday this season, it’s home to 11 unique villages, 225 km of pistes, a renowned bobsleigh track, plenty of exciting activities, and a wonderful selection of restaurants.

Recently, this popular resort has also signed a contract with Ollie Davies, who will be competing in Ski Cross during the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Born in 1997, Ollie has strong ties to La Plagne – he started skiing in Montchavin-Les Coches when he was just two years old. Although the family was based in the UK, they were all keen skiers and used to return to La Plagne every year, sometimes more than once, to enjoy the slopes.

When Ollie turned eight, the family decided they couldn’t live without the beautiful mountains of Montchavin and moved Ollie, his brother and two sisters, to the spectacular ski resort. Here, Ollie became a member of the Montchavin-Les Coches Club des Sports, where his desire to specialise in ski cross became clear.

At 14, he started participating at the British Championships and was soon selected for the British Alpine Squad. He finished first in the U16 French Championship and saw a victory at The BRITS in 2017. Following this, he made it to the podium for the Europa Cup and was crowned Junior World Champion in New Zealand during the 2018/19 ski season. More recently, he became the first British skier to compete in the Big Final at the Ski Cross World Championship in February 2021, where he came fourth.

Now at 24 years of age, he is looking forward to the exciting 2022 Winter Olympics in February, where he will compete under both the Union Jack flag and La Plagne’s much loved, and recognised, red-woolly hat.

Ollie says: “I’m unbelievably exited to be going to my first Olympic Games and to represent Great Britain. What makes it even more special is having La Plagne behind me all the way. La Plagne holds a special place in my heart. I remember my first day at the local ski club in Montchavin when I was a kid, instantly falling in love with ski racing, and dreaming of competing at the Winter Olympics!”.
