Don’t miss out on these events in Morzine, France this summer!

With its peaceful pine forests, magnificent views of Mont-Blanc, and wide range of sporting activities, it’s no wonder Morzine, in the French Alps, is a popular destination throughout summer. Sitting at 1,000 metres altitude, Morzine’s beautiful car-free village has retained its authentic Haute-Savoie charm and is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts.

Three renowned events, centred around two wheels, are taking place in resort this year: the Tour de France and the Étape du Tour, plus the Mountain Bike World Cup. Thousands of guests are expected to watch these world-class spectacles, with hundreds of top athletes competing.

In addition, those wanting to make the most of the great outdoors will find plenty to do; from the Pass’Portes and Spartan Race to the Nature Workshops and the Trail des Hauts Forts.

June

23-25 June 2023: Pass’Portes du Soleil
Pass’Portes du Soleil is an opportunity to explore the region via various day-long routes. Plus, gravel riders can make use of a new two-day gravel circuit during the event. Departing from Morzine, discover the unmissable landscapes of the Portes du Soleil including the Col du Corbier, Vallée d’Abondance, famous for its cheese, and the Lac de Montriond (price from €95 / £84 pp).

July

1-2 July 2023: Spartan Race
From 1-2 July, Morzine-Avoriaz will welcome 7,000 Spartans, keen to take on high-altitude lakes, dizzying pathways, and natural waterfalls. In addition to the three main distances, there is an Ultra marathon to compete in, with 60 obstacles over 50 km. Prices from €30 / £26 per child, and from €90.99 / £80 per adult.

9 July 2023: Étape du Tour
Amateur cyclists will have the chance to ride the exact same stage as the professionals in the Étape du Tour. They can enjoy same stage towns, the same roads, the same mythical climbs, and the same conditions as the Tour de France (the roads are entirely closed to traffic). Morzine last hosted an Étape du Tour in 2016 and is now preparing for 16,000 cyclists to attempt this challenge on 9 July 2023. Cost from €139 / £123 pp, but only available with accommodation via Morzine Réservation.

9-15 July 2023: Bike Week
Morzine will host its first Bike Week between the Étape du Tour (9 July) and the arrival of the Tour de France (15 July). During this experience, one or two cols will be closed to cars each day; guests can safely sample different routes of up to 50 km. Plus, don’t miss all the bike related entertainment in the village.

15 July 2023: Tour de France
This year, the 110th Tour de France will return to Morzine for the 22nd time. On 15 July 2023, Morzine will host a stage finish after the riders have completed a gruelling route from Annemasse that comprises climbing two passes around the resort: the col de la Ramaz and the renowned col de Joux Plane. Soak up the unique atmosphere and get ready to cheer on the cyclists!

17-21 July 2023: En Pleine Nature & Salon Nature & Plantes
Designed for nature lovers, take part in numerous free outdoor workshops including sophrology, foraging, tree climbing, hiking, and yoga all led by wellness professionals. Learn how to look after number one, whilst reconnecting with the spectacular landscapes of the French Alps. Plus, with workshops for families, including cookery sessions, why not do it all together?

24-28 July & 7-11 August 2023: Royaume des Marmots
Over these two dates, kids will be entertained with fun workshops, lively games, street shows, and delicious snacks. Dive into ball pits, try some thrilling parkour, and uncover buried treasure. Plenty of the activities are free; families need not break the bank whilst having an incredible time in the centre of resort.

August

5 August 2023: Trail des Hauts-Forts
Set off on an exciting trail-running adventure from Morzine to Avoriaz, making sure to enjoy the mesmerising views of the Portes du Soleil en route. Choose from three distances (23 km, 40 km, and 51 km) as well as a relay race depending on ability. Throughout the course, volunteers will be on hand to cheer on and refuel the competitors. Prices from €27 / £24 pp.

26 August 2023: Montriond-Morzine-Avoriaz Triathlon
Swim, cycle and run around these stunning resorts when taking part in the Montriond-Morzine-Avoriaz Triathlon. Happening for the fifth time, the event will start at the sparkling Lake Montriond, before a challenging bike ride (the Olympic and Sprint courses will take in the famous Avoriaz hill climb featured in the Tour de France) and a run into Avoriaz. There are four distances available, including one specifically for children called Tristars. Registration from €10 / £9 pp.

7-17 September 2023: Mountain Bike World Cup
The Mountain Bike World Cup will take place in Morzine and the Portes du Soleil from 7-17 September 2023. It’s the biggest mountain bike event of the season, and the best riders from around the world will compete surrounded by thousands of cheering fans. New for 2023, there will also be a 10-day mountain biking festival combining all major mountain bike race formats into a single occasion.
