AliKats Unveils Audacious Goals for Climate Action Plan

Morzine-based chalet company, AliKats, extends pledge from the 2024/25 ski season.

Equipped for the up-coming ski season, AliKats in not standing still with their sustainability strategy, and in fact are taking things much further to ensure a future for guests staying at their bespoke catered and self-catered chalets in  Morzine-Avoriaz, France.

Founded over a decade ago by Al and Kat Judge, the company has grown to encompass 12 high-end chalets across the resort, all powered by 100% renewable electricity and are ramping up their efforts for the 2024/25 ski season with a renewed commitment to protecting the environment.. AliKats continues to pioneer sustainable tourism, aiming to make holidays not just net zero, but an inspiring force for good.

Our planet needs to heal, and we believe it’s our duty to play a significant role in that healing,” said Al Judge, co-founder of AliKats. “Spending time in nature is essential, and as custodians of these mountains, we are committed to protecting and preserving them for future generations. Our core values reflect our unwavering commitment to the planet, our guests, and our team.”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that by 2030 we need to cut global carbon emissions to at least 55% below what they were in 2017 to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming. In response, transforming a business into an eco-friendly operation is no small task, especially in an industry that paradoxically impacts the very environment it relies on. Ski companies are traditionally dependent on-air travel, meat-heavy catering, hot tubs, and the heating of luxury properties in freezing conditions. So how do you reimagine such a model to align with sustainability?

AliKats has taken on this challenge with ambition and purpose, striving to turn these traditional practices into opportunities for environmental stewardship without compromising on the luxury and comfort guests expect. This bold commitment is part of AliKats’ ongoing mission to revolutionise the ski holiday industry by putting environmental sustainability at the forefront of its operations.

AliKats’ purpose is clear: to create joyful mountain experiences for all while safeguarding the health of the planet. Their mission is equally ambitious, with a goal to invest €1 million in environmental protection by 2035. This is achievable and to make this happen – the team has signed a charter to deliver this through a multitude of focused efforts.

“By putting a monetary figure on our goal, we ensure that sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do,” explained Al Judge. “This approach allows us to direct resources towards projects that regenerate and restore, rather than exploit and deplete.”

How Will €1 Million Be Invested? AliKats’ €1 million investment will be channelled into a variety of focused sustainability initiatives over the next decade. While donations to trusted environmental associations will play a role, most of the investment will come through embedding sustainable practices across the business. These efforts include:

Zero Food Waste: AliKats is committed to maintaining a zero-waste business by ensuring that all food is carefully managed, reducing landfill waste and supporting composting efforts. This has been achieved for the past two years so far.

Volunteer Work: Employee hours will be dedicated to volunteering with conservation projects, helping to restore local ecosystems and promote environmental stewardship.

Sustainable Operations: Investment will also be made in sustainable procurement, prioritising eco-friendly products over harmful alternatives. This includes using organic cleaning products and toxin-free toiletries.

Guest Initiatives: Guests will benefit from free electric vehicle charging at the chalets, and discounts for those who choose eco-friendly travel options such as taking the train, eating plant-based meals, and opting out of hot tub use.

Alikats is working towards a B Corp Certification, the designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency for 2025 -2026.
