What’s new this winter in Megève?

Restaurants

One table two chefs, Marc Veyrat and wife Christine present new address
Famous chef, Marc Veyrat, this winter returns to his first love – conjuring up memories of his rural childhood through ‘High-Definition Cuisine’. Located just a stone’s throw from the village in a cosy hideaway with the heartfelt warmth of a family home, the chef masterminds an intimate dinner for up to 18 guests. It is truly an experience-based journey that introduces guests to the flavours and herbs of the mountains.  Marc works alongside his wife, Christina Heckler Veryat, also a chef, who offciaites in a hearth kitchen. Flame, embers, ash and smoke – her mastery of the elements is evident even before the desserts are served. The Marc Veryat Menu is priced from €395 pp not including drinks and the Christine Heckler Veyrat Menu is priced from €180 pp.

Emmanuel Renaut takes over Le Prieuré
Emmanuel Renaut, three-starred chef, is taking over Le Prieuré, still intent on offering unique experiences based on mountain culinary expertise. A new chapter is opening up for this emblematic establishment in the centre of the village, which has been run by the same family for 3 generations. In a bistro atmosphere, you can enjoy authentic dishes based on local produce. The menu changes with the seasons, from the chef’s signature fondue to lake fish and a fine selection of local cheeses.

La Brasserie Benjamin
La Brasserie Benjamin, a new gourmet brasserie with Alpine influences has opened at the Four Seasons Hôtel Megève. The menu, which includes Cévennes onion soup with Abondance gratin, traditional pâté en croute and sole meunière, has been designed by the chef Armando Acquaviva and his team to showcase French classics and local products. As for the pâtisserie, Jonathan Chapuis, who has been the pastry chef at the Four Seasons since 2019, has created a range of gourmet desserts embellished with mountain flowers and plants. These include meadowsweet chocolate profiteroles, two vanilla mille-feuille or Chartreuse baba. There is also of course, a selection of outstanding wines, including some very rare grands crus from the Laffite Rothschild estate

Accommodation

Chef Marc Veyrat invites guests to stay in his new chalet
Located just down the road from the village of Megève, on the Chemin des Ânes, Marc Veyrat invites guests to come and stay with him in his new, completely renovated chalet. As well as the culinary experience, the chef invites his guests to stay in his four guest rooms, which have been converted into real mountain dwellings where wood is the key word. Each room is uniquely decorated to blend in with its original setting without detracting from it.  Made to be discovered with friends or as a couple. Open all year round, Thursday to Saturday evenings, ‘Les logis des Amoureux, des Amis’ has four rooms available. Rooms are priced from €750 / £627 per night for a double room sleeping two people.

Stay at the recently-awarded five star Lodge Park Hotel
Stay at Lodge Park, a newly renovated 5-star hotel, set to open its doors in the heart of Megève in December 2024. Perfectly situated in the village centre and just steps away from the ski slopes, this luxurious retreat combines sophisticated elegance with the untamed spirit of the Alps. Every detail at Lodge Park is meticulously designed to offer guests an unforgettable Alpine experience, from exclusive amenities to personalised services. A seven night stay at Lodge Park is priced from €2,544 / £2,117 pp based on two sharing a double room with breakfast included.

 

Immersive experiences

Mixology workshops
Thomas Bencze, a virtuoso in the world of the bar, which he has made his profession, winning prizes in mixology competitions along the way, is opening a coffee shop and concept store to share his passion for the art of the cocktail with other epicureans. At Studio Givré, he aims to take the mystery out of the world of cocktails through mixology workshops, which he organises on demand and to order. You can learn how to make the classics or create a unique cocktail. Children are also catered for, with special ‘mocktail’ workshops. A cocktail workshop is priced from €69 / £57 pp and lasts approximately an hour and a mocktail workshop for children is priced from €35 / £29 for a 45 min session.

Megève’s very own ‘aperigloo’ experience
In Megève, the Far North experience takes on a unique dimension. In the unspoilt Le Leutaz valley, which has the feel of a mini Canada, an igloo can be found that has been built by hand to the highet standards. Michael and Alban, oversaw the project which took four people a week to complete. From gathering snow which one hardened, is dug out to form an igloo with a diameter of 4.5 metres and with a capacity of 20 people. This home, made of ice, which will require constant maintenance throughout the winter, is designed to welcome guests for an ‘apérigloo’ made with local produce, such as sausage, Val d’Arly cheese and mountain bread all served with warming mulled wine to be enjoyed under the stars. The ‘apérigloo’ experience lasts for three hours and is priced from €38 / £31.50 for adults and €35 / £29 for children, this includes a snowshoe excursion to reach the igloo and a delicious aperitif.

An unsettling polar experience
This breathtaking, mini-expedition organised by Evolution 2 Megève begins with a snowshoe ascent between forests and ridges lasting between one hour 30 minutes and two hours 30 minutes (the guide will adapt his itinerary according to the level of the group) to reach the summit of the Alpette, where a professional musher awaits the adventurers. After a briefing and a chance to meet the dogs, participants are invited to board a carriage for a spectacular 20-minute ride. This is followe by a short walk back to Pré Rosset, where a dinner of local flavours (fondue bourguignonne or cheese) and an overnight stay in the mountain pastures complete the feeling of escape. Megève is only one hour from Geneva Airport, which benefits from direct, low-cost flight access from London, Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. Return flights from London Gatwick to Geneva with easyJet are priced from just £49 pp during the 2023/24 ski season.
