What’s new in Megève, this summer?

Although the French mountain resort of Megève is renowned for its winter offerings of downhill slopes and cross-country ski runs, it is equally magical during the summer months. Throughout the summer Megève reveals a unique charm, discover the panoramic view of the Mont-Blanc massif surrounded by lush flora and crystal clear waters. Take a stroll through the sun dappled alpine village with its elegant boutiques, lively streets and inviting large terraces.

From outdoor swimming, mountain biking and hiking to jewellery making, starry film screenings and tree top adventure courses – Megève has it all. Whether with friends or family, what better place to create unforgettable memories than in this magnificent green setting. This summer enjoy unique musical moments with renowned artists at the Megève jazz contest, take part in international sporting events such as the MB race, and sample delicious local dishes at the Toquicimes festival.

New family activities

Take a five day trek through Megève this summer, walking alongside a group of donkeys. This route is created with children and young people in mind, a five day four night hike through Megève accompanied by donkeys who will lighten the load by carrying all luggage. The hike begins in Cote 2000, where accompanied by a mountain guide and instructor, hikers will begin the adventure. Stroll along market trails, picnic in green pastures and spend the night in a cosy mountain refuge. There will be two treks organised this summer from 17 to 21 July and 14 to 18 August. The five day hike costs €700 / £616 pp, this includes a mountain guide and full board throughout the trip.

Completely designed to suit their developmental stage and muscles, this summer Evolution 2 is launching a mountain bike course specifically for children aged eight to 12. Over the course of three days, a qualified instructor will share their enthusiasm for the sport along with lots of little tips so that the children soon feel at one with their bike (which is provided for the course)! All the hints and tips you need to have fun in the bike park or ride along with your parents on the trails. The course is priced from €195 /£150 pp, this includes mountain bike rental and one journey on a ski lift.

New opportunities to connect with nature

This summer reconnect with nature on a sensory hike, designed to awake all the senses. Feel, smell, discover, learn and be surprised on this unique hike. With barefoot workshops for touch, blindfolded tastings and much more participants are encouraged to go on a journey of personal exploration designed to encourage openness and improved general well-being. A private trip is priced from €180/£154 for a half day and €310/£273 for a full day for groups of up to six people.

Learn to make your own jewellery, drawing inspiration from the forest and surrounding nature. As part of Biodiversity Tuesdays, people taking part in the workshop will learn all about the varieties of seeds, woods and mosses in the forests. Drawing on these wonderful discoveries, participants can enjoy seeing their pendants and earrings start to take shape in this delightfully creative atmosphere. A forest jewellery session is free to join.

New adventure activities

Go on an overnight electric mountain biking adventure through the mountains. Leave from Megève for this two day one night adventure, after an afternoon of riding electric mountain bikes through the forests and paths of Megève, participant will start ascending the ridges to reach the summit of Tête de Torraz where Foodtruck 1930 will be waiting. A true paradise, overlooking the mountains with a 360 degree view. At the top set up a bivouac which will be home for the evening, here local chef Yan will provide bikers with a local craft beer or one of his delicious potato fritters. Then return to the tent to spend the night immersed in nature. The following day after breakfasting on local produce under the first rays of sun, begin the return to Megève village centre. The electric biking mountain adventure is priced from €250 /£220 pp.

Unmissable events  

The village of Megève in the French Alps hosts an impressive array of events each year, spanning countless sporting, cultural, music and family themed festivals. This summer’s major events will include the MB Race, widely regarded as one of the most exciting and toughest mountain bike races in the world. From 1 to 3 July 2023, cyclists and spectators alike will head to Megève to discover the magnificent trails and landscapes of the Pays du Mont-Blanc. The event is open to all, from seasoned cycling enthusiasts, to amateur cyclists. With eight different cycling events on offer, there is something for everyone. Registration fees are priced from €35 / £29 pp.

An unmissable summer event, the Megève Jazz Contest sees four amateur New Orleans Jazz compete in true Jazz Contest style, performing throughout the village from 15 to 16 July 2023. The bands will also hold bebop lessons as a prelude to the concerts in the Megève tourism amphitheatre. The 27th edition of the festival is a tribute to Poumy Arnaud, the artistic director of the event who passed away in 2022. The concerts are free to attend and bebop lessons are priced from €10/£9pp.

This autumn Toquicimes festival will return for its sixth helping in the charming mountain village of Megève this autumn, from 20-22 October 2023. Celebrating the region’s finest flavours and best-local produce, the four-day event will bring together the best chefs and artisan food producers from Megève and the wider area. The theme of this year’s festival is “Toquicimes to the farm”, holidaymakers can expect live cooking demonstrations, tasting sessions, workshops, foodie competitions and a variety of live entertainment throughout.
