Watch Le Boat on ‘Great Canal Journeys’ this November
Channel 4’s ‘Great Canal Journeys’ has returned to our screens, showcasing Timothy West and Prunella Scales’ canal trips from all over the world. This Sunday 18th November at 7pm, the last episode of the series will feature the couple’s captivating trip along the Rideau Canal in Canada, aboard one of Le Boat’s premier Horizon vessels.
Following their enchanting voyage on the Canal de Marne au Rhine in Alsace with Le Boat last year, this summer was dedicated to exploring the highlights of the picturesque UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal, Le Boat’s newest destination. Journeying through idyllic surroundings, they discovered fascinating cultural and historic sites and indulged in authentic Canadian cuisine. Those interested in seeing what scenery holidaymakers would pass en route, should tune in to watch Tim and Pru’s grand Canadian adventure.
The programme was filmed shortly after Le Boat opened its first North American base in May 2018, in the charming town of Smiths Falls on the delightful Rideau Canal. Opened in 1832 and stretching from the Canadian capital of Ottawa to Kingston, on Lake Ontario, the Rideau is the oldest continuously operating canal in North America. The 125-mile engineering marvel connects lakes and rivers, with 47 locks and 24 lock stations taking holidaymakers through the heart of some of Ontario’s most picturesque scenery.
Since filming, Le Boat has announced that it will add a second base on the Rideau at Seeley’s Bay ready for spring 2019. The addition of this well-located base will give visitors the chance to discover even more of this spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site since, previously, only return cruises from Smiths Falls were available. Now, holidaymakers will have the opportunity to venture on return trips from Seeley’s Bay or to enjoy a one-way route between the two destinations, exploring new terrain for the entire trip.
