VIP Chalets welcomes bike-minded guests for Crankworx Les Gets 2016
Crankworx, the multi-competition multi-show mountain biking event, will return to France in June for its fifth year and, for the first time ever, will be hosted by Les Gets. Guests staying in VIP Chalets’ Altitude Lodge will catch the action first-hand and can even take part in the competitions and events running from 15-18th June.
The only stage in Europe, Les Gets joins Rotorua in New Zealand and Whistler in Canada where the best biking champions on the planet will descend to discover which rider will be crowned the best and most versatile in each discipline.
Families, friends, couples and solo biking enthusiasts can stay in VIP Chalets’ Altitude Lodge for the duration of the event. The nine-bedroom hotel sleeps up to 29 guests in a mix of double rooms and family rooms, some with balconies or terraces and three have private outdoor hot tubs. Crankworx’ thrill-seekers can return to Altitude Lodge after an action-packed day to kick back and relax in the outdoor hot tub or the ground floor wet suite with sauna.
Les Gets is an excellent venue for this year’s event. Part of the 12-resort Portes du Soleil riding circuit located in the French Alps, Les Gets has hosted the 2004 World Championship and four UCI World Cups. It was also one of the first resorts in Europe to facilitate downhill racing by offering lift-accessed mountain biking, becoming a true pioneer for the sport.
Crankworx 2016 will showcase and celebrate world-class mountain biking in a series of competitions and events for men, women and children. Guests can expect new products, demo bikes, music acts, photography and parties as well as Crankworx’ mountain bike film festival: “Light on MTB” designed to promote film productions by mountain bike enthusiasts.
Kicking off on 15th June, the event will of course commence with an epic opening ceremony where guests will even have the opportunity to meet the athletes. Excited early-risers will gather to watch the first event, Crankworx Les Gets Dual Speed & Style, which takes place at 9am followed by The Official European Whip-Off Championships presented by Spank, Les Gets Pump Track Challenge, and flagship event Slopestyle where bikers will show off their jaw-dropping moves to an awe-inspired audience.
Organised exclusively for women is the Girls Night Ride With Tahnée Seagrave where ladies can treat themselves to drinks and nibbles in a mountain restaurant before heading out on a night ride in the company of British downhill mountain bike champion and ambassador of Les Gets, Tahnée Seagrave.
Youngsters can take part for free from day one with Kidsworx Pump Track Skills where they will learn from their heroes and be bitten by the biking bug. On Saturday 18th June, children aged six years and older can then compete in the Kidsworx Pump Track contest before the Kidsworx Dual Slalom on the Sunday, providing a fantastic opportunity for children to learn more about mountain biking and compete in an adrenaline-fuelled atmosphere. Children sleeping in bunk beds stay for half price at Altitude Lodge.
A stay in Altitude Lodge is priced from £130 per night based on two sharing with half-board accommodation for a minimum of three nights.
