How Heaven spend their summers

With summer now well underway we wanted to share the things we love about the warmer months and our favourite ways to spend them!

Love the summer for music and being outside – so many options and festivals to choose from around the country and the world! Staying closer to home, I’m heading to Hampton Court Palace to see Tears for Fears.  The plan is a lovely cycle ride along the Thames tow path to this amazing historical venue. It’s such a special place with great acoustics and a very intimate atmosphere. To get in the mood a delicious glass of bubbles in the stunning gardens will not go a miss. I am looking forward to the memories of the eighties, I remember dancing around my bedroom singing at the top of voice with my record player turning to ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ … at least I will be with 2,000 other people probably doing a similar thing this time!

This will be the summer of 30th birthday parties (yes, I’ve reached that age), lengthy walks in the countryside to find new pubs and learning how to care for a garden (I finally have my own). The warmer temperature offers the perfect excuse to mix up some Pimm’s or crack open a Belgian Beer and fire up the BBQ with friends and family; making the most of the long, lazy evenings. Wild camping in Wales is also on the cards, but that really depends on the weather…

For me summer is all about being outside with family and friends. I am about to move house, and for the first time since I was a kid I will have a garden. I can’t wait to fire up the BBQ, get the beers on ice and have all my favourite people in one place, sitting out until the early hours putting the world to right. I also think we are blessed in this country, there is so much going on in the summer, every weekend there is a chance to attend a different music or food festival or to simply head out in to the countryside to discover pretty villages in the Cotswolds, East Anglia or the south-west. And of course, every year I look forward to an overseas holiday, for me it’s all about unwinding and relaxing in the sun. Whether it’s Europe or further afield, it’s great to have just a few days sitting on the beach or by the pool, with a book in hand and an endless supply of good wine and regional cuisine!

With the weather warmer and the days longer, I love spending weekends outside with my husband and son. Our local country park is a family favourite with lots of playgrounds and a splash park for the warmer days. We also love a beach day, so will pack up the car with a picnic and buckets and spades and play for hours on the beach with our son.

With apologies to 10cc, I don’t like cricket no no, I love it! With the cricket world cup in our back yard this year, I am in Heaven. I applied for a plethora of tickets in the ballot and managed to get New Zealand vs West Indies at Old Trafford which promises the chance of a few beers and watching some of the best players in the World. Then, followed up by an Ashes series at home where I got tickets to go to the first day at the Oval. In between those, the International Mini meeting is in Bristol this year, so although Porto last year was great, it is nice not to have to do the 3,000-mile round trip. Also, love the Summer for BBQs and my speciality, rum-soaked pineapple.
