A ‘not to miss’ initiative runs throughout the whole winter season: BREAKFAST WITH POWDER SNOW from Tuesday to Friday morning. Leave at 6.50 or 7.20 am by snowcat. Start the day up at 2000 meters altitude with a hearty breakfast, enjoying typical South Tyrolean products (dairy and marmalades from local mountain huts, honey, bread, speck, eggs, apples and apple juice). Then head off for the first downhill ski on white virgin slopes before the ski lifts open for the day. Price at Las Vegas hut: 15€ Price at Col Alt Hut: 25€

For lovers of traditional Ladin mountain cuisine Alta Badia recommends the SKITOUR SANTA CROCE – MOUNTAIN HUTS AND ANCIENT FLAVOURS. The Ladin cuisine, simple yet genuine, is the main protagonist in the eight huts within the Skitour Santa Croce skiing area. Each hut specialises in one Ladin dish, cooked strictly following Granny’s recipe. Each dish is paired with a South Tyrolean wine. This sun-kissed gastronomic ski tour gives you breathtaking views of a vast valley and its forests and Ladin mountain huts. Don’t miss out on the parish church of Badia, or the home of Saint Freinademetz and the traditional ‘viles’, the farms in Fussé, Coz and Pransarores, before reaching the suggestive Santa Croce church at the foot of the Santa Croce Mountain. The Skitour Santa Croce is also perfect for families.

For guests wishing to learn how to cook Ladin dishes, LADIN COOKING CLASSES are available at the Sotćiastel farm led by Erica Pitscheider, a local farmer’s wife. Classes run every Wednesday at 10.30 am. Erica will teach how to cook famous ‘turtres’ (spinach and ricotta or sauerkraut filled pancakes) or ‘furtaies’ (a spiral-shaped pastry, prepared by the bride’s mother the day before the wedding for relatives and neighbours). 15€ per person.

A perfect closing to the winter season dedicated to food  will take place on Sunday 30th March 2014, Alta Badia will showcase DÉ DL VIN-A WINE SAFARI ON YOUR SKIS for the best South Tyrolean wines at 2000 m altitude for a tasting session with Speck, bread and cheese all trademarked “Quality Südtirol”.South Tyrolean wines stand out for their superb quality, obtained thanks to a favourable climate, fertile soil and the care and dedication shown by winemakers. ALTA BADIA: COOK AND SHARE

Outstanding gastronomy plays an important role in Alta Badia.  Several special food events, including A Taste for Skiing, Peaks of Gastronomy and ARTemoziun, combine the art of good cooking with some of Alta Badia’s trademarks such as sports, culture and art. In addition to these mouth-watering events, the Alta Badia Cook & Share contest was launched on Facebook in 2013: several local restaurants participated, submitting the recipe that best represents the spirit of their restaurant. The recipes, published between September and December on the Alta Badia Facebook page were rated, commented upon and shared by fans of the page. The recipe with the most votes (“Like” = 1 vote, comment = 2 votes, sharing = 3 votes) will be presented at the Gourmet Skisafari at the 15th of December.  www.facebook.com/altabadia.org
